Research and correction policy

Editorial Standards

How listings, events and planning guidance are researched, labeled, reviewed and corrected.

Source hierarchy

For changing rules and operating details, this guide gives priority to the organization responsible for the information: a land manager for closures and permits, a city or transit operator for public service, an event organizer for dates, and a business for its own booking or service details. Established tourism and chamber calendars can be useful discovery sources, but readers are still directed to the organizer when one is available.

Directory review levels

Every directory listing shows one of four online-source outcomes. “Owner/agency source matched” means the sampled page contained name evidence plus city and street-number or postal-code evidence. “Partial source match” means name evidence was found, but the location evidence was incomplete. “Source check inconclusive” means the page loaded without enough identity evidence. “Online source unresolved” means the source was unavailable, blocked, timed out or otherwise could not be evaluated.

These labels deliberately avoid the word “verified.” They describe an automated web review, not an in-person visit, two-source confirmation, safety review or guarantee of current operating status. No label should be interpreted as a rating.

Planning and outdoor content

Evergreen advice is separated from current-condition decisions. Articles can explain how exposure, heat, parking, geography or route difficulty affect a plan, but closures, fire restrictions, weather, shuttle operations and legal motorized routes must be checked with the responsible source close to departure. The guide links to those sources where the decision occurs.

Events

Published events require an organizer or established calendar source, a date, a place and a review date. Past events are removed from the active dataset. A source link remains the final authority because times, ticket requirements and cancellations can change after review.

Images and firsthand claims

The guide does not claim that a location was personally visited unless an article explicitly documents who visited and when. Directory cards in this release do not display the legacy third-party location-photo set because the package does not include a clear rights record for those images. Brand assets and functional map tiles are handled separately under their applicable terms.

Advertising, affiliates and conflicts

Advertising and referral relationships are separated from research decisions. Payment does not alter an audit label or guarantee coverage. Promotional copy is not treated as independent evidence. If a future sponsored placement is accepted, it should be labeled where the reader sees it.

Corrections

Corrections should identify the exact URL and listing or passage, explain what is wrong and provide a source. Safety issues, hijacked domains and misleading outbound links are prioritized. A changed source does not automatically prove that the underlying place closed; the public record may instead be marked unresolved while better evidence is gathered.
